JAMMA Connector

The majority of arcade boards out there use the JAMMA standard, or a variation thereof, for connection to their cabinet or, in our case, a SuperGun. The connector itself is a 56-way (2x28) 0.156" or 3.96mm pitch edge connector and is easily obtainable from specialist arcade component suppliers, or maybe even your local electronics place if they have a large enough selection. It's also possible to purchase a complete JAMMA harness, which is basically the connector with all the wires crimped or soldered on already.

JAMMA only caters for a maximum of three buttons per player, but it's common practise to borrow some of the unused pins for extra buttons. I therefore ended up with the following pin-out:

Modified JAMMA Pinout

The signal names are resonably self-explanatory. For a SuperGun you can ignore the coin counter and lockout pins. The "tilt" pin can be hooked up to a button if you like, but I opted not to bother. The function of the speaker +/- pins differs for some Neo-Geo MVS boards, but this is explained further in the audio section.
