Saturn

Date: 20/11/2004

My best image of Saturn to date, taken in reasonably good seeing. This one was produced from a stack of about 500 frames taken with the Meade LPI. Especially the colour seems far better than in previous attempts, although the original stack had a purple tinge.

Taken with the Meade LPI with a 2x Barlow under pretty poor conditions. 100 frames stacked using RegiStax, then further processed with Gausian blur and unsharp mask in Paint Shop Pro.

Despite the poor quality of the raw frames, the Cassini division is clearly visible, as is an equarorial band on the surface and the dark polar region.

Thanks to Ed Roach of the LX90 Users' group External link for tips on getting the most from this set of images.
