Sinclair ZX81

Following the ZX80, Sinclair brought out the very popular ZX81, which was also available in pre-built or kit form. Eventhough the machine had roughly the same specifications as its predecesor, it filled a previously unseen gap in the market for home computers. It's therefore pretty easy to pick up one of these in good condition today.

I have two ZX81s in my collection - one which I built myself, and one brand new, unbuilt ZX81 kit. Despite having not been manufactured for around 20 years, these kits are remarkably still available from Zebra Systems External link! Note however that these kits were intended for the South American market, and therefore come with a 110V power supply. The supplied assembly instructions and manual are not the original Sinclair versions, but these are quite easily obtained separately.
