PDP-11/23+ System Cabinet

The system is housed in a 19" cabinet which has space for plenty of equipment. The cabinet came with two RL02 drives fitted as shown. In the bottom is a power controller which can be used to distribute power to all parts of the system, controlled by a switch on the front panel.

The system box connects to the outside world though an elaborate distribution panel which can be easily customised to take various boards which, in turn, connect to the cards installed in the backplane.

This panel is fitted out with the basic RS-232 console port on the left and an extra eight RS-232 ports split over the two boards on the right. This may seem like a lot of serial ports (on a modern laptop you'd be lucky to find one!) but I assume they were used to connect terminals to allow multiple users to access the system simultaneously. Seeing as I don't yet have any use for so many ports, the DHV11-A Asynchronous Multiplexor which was used to drive them is currently not installed. In the centre is the board for the DEQNA Ethernet interface - unfortunately this wouldn't fit in the narrow slots as the fuse holder (grey) is just too large.
