Digital Equipment Corporation
This section is dedicated to my collection of classic DEC hardware. Although I've had an Alpha machine for a while, being a UNIX nut and a fan of old hardware, it was only a matter of time before I (re)discovered Digital's famous PDP-11 minicomputers. This long-running range ran from 1970 right through to 1990, spanning an important time in the development of computers and operating systems. I'm still on the look-out for an older blinkenlights machine (an 11/45 or similar would be my first choice) but the newer systems are still great to tinker with and a good introduction to the platform. Not only are the later PDP-11 systems more recognisable to those used to modern hardware, they generally take up less space than their predecessors. |
